Coach-to-Coach Insight

She has been on the other side of every call you are about to make.

Monica Holmes is a decorated NCAA Division I volleyball player turned head coach, educator, and advisor whose career has been built at the intersection of athletic excellence and academic achievement. After competing at the highest collegiate level, she played professionally in Bern, Switzerland, on the Women's Professional Volleyball Association Beach Tour, and in the National Volleyball Association — before coaching at Columbia University and Pratt Institute as head coach, with assistant roles at the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Hofstra University, and the University of Illinois.

She knows something no book, no former admissions officer, and no recruiting platform can replicate: what it takes to gain admission to an elite academic institution — and succeed there. Movement Consulting is that knowledge, available to your family directly.

Monica navigates this world as a parent, too. She is not advising from a distance — she is in it alongside you. Away from the work, she is an avid sailor on the western Long Island Sound.

Why Movement Consulting

This isn't a platform. This is Monica.

Most families see recruiting from the outside. Monica spent two decades inside it — evaluating athletes, building rosters, and watching how coaches actually make decisions.

01

Coach-level evaluation

Every film review is done by Monica personally, with the eye of a Division I head coach. No interns. No algorithms.

02

An honest read

Where your game actually stands, which levels fit, and what separates you from the next one — measured against what coaches respond to, not the marketed standards.

03

A plan with a clock

Recruiting timelines start earlier than most families expect. You leave with specific next steps, in the right order, for your athlete.

04

Direct access

You work with Monica, not an account manager. Her voice on the call, her name on the report.

“Most families don't need to spend more. They need to know where their athlete actually stands, and what to do next. I tell them the truth, and then we build the plan.”

What Every Recruiting Family Should Know

Three things families usually learn too late.

01  The Clock

It starts earlier than you think.

Talent is on a coach's radar in eighth and ninth grade. Families who assume it is too early enter a race that started two years before them.

02  The Rules

Contact rules restrict coaches, not your athlete.

NCAA contact rules limit when and how coaches can reach out to recruits, and the limits vary by division and sport. They don't apply to your athlete, who can email, call, and send film to coaches at any age — and should have a plan for when and how.

03  The Groundwork

Coursework counts from ninth grade.

NCAA core courses begin counting in ninth grade, and a coach's own camp is where they can legally see and coach an athlete in person that early.

NCAA rules differ by sport and division and change often. Information as of October 2026 — confirm current rules at ncaa.org.

The Approach

How Monica works.

Every engagement begins the same way: Monica listens. The process is built around your child, your family, and your specific goals — not a template.

01

Discovery Conversation

Monica speaks with the family — and the athlete directly — to understand athletic level, academic standing, target schools, timeline, and what you need from an advisor.

02

Assessment & Strategy

Your athlete's profile is assessed against the realistic standards of their target programs — what coaches and admissions offices actually respond to.

03

Active Advisory

Ongoing guidance for families who want it: sessions, communication coaching, academic monitoring, and coach outreach support.

04

Placement & Transition

Support through the offer, commitment, and transition phases — so placement is the beginning of success, not the end of the process.

For Schools, Clubs & Athletic Departments

Bring coach-level recruiting knowledge to your families.

A workshop for parents and athletes, a private Q&A for your staff, and no sales pitch in the room. Your first session is complimentary.

Movement Consulting is not for everyone. It may be right for you.

Monica works with families whose athlete is positioned to compete at selective institutions — and whose family is ready to commit to the process. It is not for families looking for hype, shortcuts, or someone to do all the work. The athlete and family are active participants in the roadmap, not passengers.

If that describes your family, the first step is a conversation. Monica personally reviews every inquiry and responds within 48 hours.
